Therapy can be a "strange" experience. Asking someone to talk abut their most vulnerable issues with someone they just met is not usual. I respect that process and try to make it as comfortable as possible.
The range of issues presented will often determine the type of therapy offered. For children, therapy options may include Play Therapy or CBT therapy, which can help them discover more effective ways to address current difficulties. Additionally, for adolescents, specialized therapy for adolescents can provide tailored strategies to manage their unique challenges.
Older clients benefit from dynamic and cognitive talk therapy, including CBT therapy, which helps them identify issues that affect both their lives and their behavior. Through this process, they learn how to change their thoughts and behaviors to approach problems differently and successfully. Additionally, therapy for adolescents and children therapy can also provide similar benefits, focusing on their unique challenges and promoting positive change.
Medical, chronic, or terminal illnesses can benefit from various techniques such as imagery, somatic methods, distraction, relaxation, and pain management. Additionally, CBT therapy is increasingly recognized for its effectiveness in treating these conditions, especially in children therapy and therapy for adolescents.
The type of treatment chosen will be a joint decision. Recommendations will be based upon presenting issues and will be thoroughly explained as part of the skill teaching process.
Therapy does not have to be long term in nature. It frequently consists of initial weekly sessions to help patients practice their new skills in their day to day lives. Then sessions are stretched out and we work towards termination.
